New Bag Features in TANGENT

We’ve taken a lot of feedback over the last year and overhauled club capabilities in TANGENT. Here’s a quick list of some new toys:

  • Control lateral and vertical dispersion independently

  • Select a ‘preferred wedge’

  • Visualize club gapping for caddie and actual

  • Compare clubs to see which performs best

  • Multiple bags - quickly switch between multiple bags (for different locations like a travel bag or different club setups like different putters)

  • Select a bag in round setup

Tune your bag setup in TANGENT

With the latest app update it’s easier than ever to fine tune your golf bag and get even more accurate AI Caddie suggestions on the course. From the home screen, you’ll get alerts if it’s time to update your bag as AI Caddie gathers more data on how you play:

Tap on the alert to see your club list including which clubs need updating:

Tap a club to tune the data according to AI Caddie suggestions or to your liking. You can modify the suggested distance, the lateral dispersion, and the vertical dispersion. The caddie will highlight each metric with a badge if there is a large mismatch between your actual data and the current caddie setting. Tapping the badge will allow you to quickly accept or reject the changes.

Once your bag is all setup, you can check out the ‘Gapping’ visual of your current bag setup. You’ll have a gapping for your current caddie settings and actual once you have played a few rounds. Ideally you want the two to match, but you may not always set your caddie to match actual. For example, if you have a club that has a very wide dispersion, caddie may not suggest you use that club very often. So narrowing the dispersion for that club will allow Caddie to suggest it, but be careful! If your actual dispersion is wide, there is a reason why Caddie doesn’t want you to use it.

In your actual data, you may also see lateral offset. For example, if you tend to miss to the right, you’ll see the entire distribution in the gapping offset to the right.

Why doesn’t TANGENT allow you to use the Offset for your caddie?

There is a reason why TANGENT doesn’t use your actual data to offset the caddie. An offset means that you struggle to aim. If your distribution is heavily skewed to one side, that means your ability to pick a target and center your distribution over that target needs work with some of the drills you can find in the practice section of the app.

If you’ve played golf for any length of time, then you know that as soon as you aim left to account for your slice, you hit the straight ball… Or you pull it. It’s okay to play a slice, you just have to learn how to aim to get the slice to finish at your intended target.

Preferred Wedge

In TANGENT, you can also set a preferred wedge. This will tell AI Caddie that for shots under a full swing, you prefer to use this particular wedge. This is useful if you have say a 56* and a 60*, but you prefer to use the 56* whenever possible. If you don’t have a preferred wedge, TANGENT defaults to suggesting the shortest club in your bag. The ‘preferred wedge’ option overrides this and keeps you from having to edit all those shots to change the wedge after a round.

Compare clubs to see which is best

Club comparisons has been a highly requested feature and now we have it. If you game two putters and want to know which one is best, just make sure to log your data in your rounds and then you can compare the clubs side by side using the ‘club stats’ button in the club view.

I recently have been struggling with my putter, so I gamed a different one and compared stats. Gotta love data driven decisions.

And to make this even easier… Now you can configure multiple bags with different (and overlapping clubs).

TANGENT now supports multiple bags of clubs

This allows you to quickly change from a bag setup with your Nike putter and another with your Scotty (in my case). Or you can have multiple bags for travel setup to quickly change between them.

Simply hit the ‘+’ button under Active bags to add a new club to a new bag:

Or add an existing club to multiple bags so that you can quickly change between different setups before the round.

And better yet… starting in 3.0.6, you can quickly choose the bag for the day directly in your round setup.

In the latest episode, I try to break 66 from the forward tees. Playing up a tee box (or multiple) is a great way to tackle scoring milestones and get used to going low. Check out the video to see if I can break 66!
