Father's day is always a bit special once you get to that age where you have kids of your own. Life certainly changes after you have kids. Golf changes. It becomes more of a luxury and harder to fit into busy schedules.

So this year, when I had the opportunity to take my dad to Bandon Dunes to celebrate Father’s Day together… I couldn’t pass it up. The old man is still fit enough to walk 36 holes in a day, but who knows how much longer that will be true. So we hopped on a plane and headed to Bandon for a special week.

Golf is about experiences. Spending time in nature with people you love. The ecstasy of a great shot and the agony of an unlucky bounce. It is all better when you’re with people you care about. And this time I was logging memories of more than just the TANGENT app. Though I did log some pretty awesome memories with the app.

Two of the four days we had perfect weather. A windless Bandon is pretty defenseless and playing from the one-ups, I got hot. An epic finish at Pac Dunes is one I’ll never forget, which included a pretty epic disagreement between my real caddie and Tangent’s AI Caddie.

On the 16th hole, AI Caddie wanted me to pound driver and drive the green, but Matt really wanted me to layup with hybrid. He mentioned that he rarely sees success on 16 as it falls off pretty hard to the right if you miss the green. But I was hot that day, and it’s a hole that fits my eye. Needless to say, I went with AI Caddie, hit it to 20 feet and made eagle for a 2 I’ll never forget and glad my dad was there to see it.

That back 9 was special, but unfortunately, I didn’t catch it on camera. Running a golf business is awesome, but sometimes the golf turns into work. After recording myself play golf for just about every shot I’ve hit recently, I turned the cameras off at the turn at Pacific Dunes.

Maybe thats why I got hot. The thing I love about golf and about Bandon Dunes is that it kind of forces you to be present. No golf carts, just walking and talking with whoever you’re playing with. Occasionally catching some wildlife… But don’t worry I still captured a lot of it and all the beautiful video will be on The Good Miss before too long.
