TANGENT Caddie learned something new

With 40k golf courses in the TANGENT database, we are bound to miss something. Now you can help improve Caddie decisions by adding Out of Bounds and other layers to golf course maps. Just another way TANGENT Caddie can learn.

Help Caddie learn

TANGENT Caddie already knows a lot about your golf course, but it doesn’t know everything. Every round you play using TANGENT the app learns more about your individual game and how you play, your distances and dispersions that it uses to help you with tour level course management guidance. However, our course database isn’t perfect.

For example, while the app knows there are trees, until there are many rounds played at each course… it doesn’t know how penal those trees are. Are they sparse Texas trees that you can work around? Or is it a dense forest that should be avoided at all cost?

TANGENT knows where hole boundaries are, but may not know where Out of Bounds is. That’s where you come in!

In the latest update, you can add information and improve course data for those that come after you. It couldn’t be simpler. Check out this short 2 minute video that walks you through how to do it.

The beautiful thing is anybody can add the layers. The course changes and updated caddie suggestions are immediately available on your device for that round and any future rounds. Your suggested changes are also submitted to our mapping team and subject to approval. If approved, the changes will be made available for the rest of TANGENT users!

In the example video, adding the additional layers changed the caddie suggestion from Driver to 5W to avoid the Out of Bounds and dense trees.

Caddie just got even smarter.

When do you lay up on a par 3?

That may seem like a confusing question. Lay up on a par 3? Preposterous!

Sometimes it may statistically make sense. It may be a shock to the system the first time TANGENT recommends you lay up on a shot where you can technically reach the green, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t statistically the correct play. Sometimes the green is too small for your dispersion and attempting to hit the green might bring in some disastrous numbers. That is regardless of handicap level by the way.

Don’t believe me? I ran into exactly this situation in a recent video on The Good Miss, and lets just say… I wish I would have listened to TANGENT and laid up…
