The Masters and the Mid Am
Golf's greatest week is here. It's time for The Masters. New features, app updates, and excitement as major season is back and we finally get to see more of the best in the world in one place.

This is always one of my favorite weeks of the year. The official start of golf season for many of us in the states. The flowers are blooming, the grass is green, and we get an entire week of being completely unproductive with as many screens as possible streaming every piece of content we can get our eyes on… give it to me straight into my veins.
This year I’ll be paying special attention to Mid Am Champion Evan Beck. He took the path I would love to take as I set out the crazy goal to compete in and eventually win the US Mid Am. His Masters debut and first major championship start at age 34. No doubt he has a more impressive resume than my handful of Golf Channel / US Am Tour wins, but you gotta start somewhere… and where I’m starting is tomorrow’s Texas Amateur qualifier.
It’s intimidating to throw yourself out there. I have been public about saying I am going to use TANGENT to challenge myself to play better golf and play in more competitive tournaments. This will certainly be the most elite field of players I’ve gone up against… and its just a qualifier. From a pure statistical standpoint, my GHIN is just barely good enough to get me in the field.
Unfortunately, building a business is hard. Time consuming. So is being a good dad and husband. I’m behind my goals on practicing and while I’ve already practiced more this year than I probably did all of last year… It’s not exactly where I want to be. I’m sure you can relate. Not enough time in the day. The practice I have done, much of it with the TANGENT app, has been more focused. If you squint your eyes just hard enough, there looks to be a slight upward trend in my overall strokes gained.
One of my favorite plots in the TANGENT Player Report is Strokes Gained Variance:

It may be a lot to take in at first, but it shows how each area of your game varies from round to round. The dark green ovals are where your game ‘typically’ lives. For example, I am typically lose between 1 and 3 strokes to an Elite Am in driving… But my best day gains almost 2 strokes! The potential is there. The most volatile part of my game is approach and that is part of why I am spending most of my practice in trying to shrink those green boxes and make it more consistent. The Strokes Gained Variance is a great tool to measure your consistency and you can find it in the Player Report under the Data section of the TANGENT app.
I definitely feel like my ball striking has improved, but tomorrow is a tournament. An official, full field, TXGA tournament against college kids, aspiring pros, and plenty of people that have hit thousands more golf balls then I have in the last handful of months.
I am probably feeling what higher handicappers feel when they get paired with a scratch. Am I going to embarrass myself? Can I keep it on the planet?
Come on game, don’t fail me now!
Golf is hard. I know that tomorrow will be a test of my emotions, my patience, and my golf swing… But just like that lower handicap you get paired with… No one I play with is going to care what I shoot tomorrow. As long as I keep up and am pleasant to play with it’ll all work out. Now the internet trolls? Thats a different story, but I’m kind of doing that to myself aren’t I?
Follow me live in the TANGENT app

One of my favorite features in TANGENT is being able to follow friends and creators. Under the Community tab, select Creators (or friends) and follow or add your friends to the platform. You’ll get notifications when they play and can dive right in and follow along to live vicariously or heckle relentlously.

New chat feature available in 3.0.7!
And in the most recent app update that is hitting devices this week (3.0.7) there will now be in-app chat. Leave a comment for your buddies or favorite creators in the TANGENT app. So if you’re so inclined… follow along while I play the Texas Am qualifier tomorrow and either leave me words of encouragement or tell me I’ll never make it. Either way it’s fuel.

Has TANGENT helped you improve?
If you love TANGENT and want to help us grow, the two best ways are to tell all your friends and to leave a short review on the Apple App Store.
You’ve heard the hype. It’s time for results.

After two years of siloed experiments, proofs of concept that fail to scale, and disappointing ROI, most enterprises are stuck. AI isn't transforming their organizations — it’s adding complexity, friction, and frustration.
