New Round Report in TANGENT
Hopefully by now you’ve seen the new Round Report in TANGENT. It replaces the old Round Summary and the beauty of it is that there is much less clicking and much more flow. The Round Report Performance Summary guides you through your entire performance from the high level analysis of what part of your game needs work, to the specifics of exactly what to dive into and work on to improve. I recently used the Round Report to break down a poor performance in a tournament prep round. You can see how I use all TANGENT has to offer in this video. I’m not just the developer, I’m putting my money where my mouth is and trying to see just how good I can get leveraging TANGENT.
What is your golf ceiling?
It’s an interesting question. Isn’t it? How good do you think you could get?
If I’m being honest, its a question that has bugged me for a long time. In fact, its the reason I started app development over 10 years ago. The first iteration of TANGENT was called PocketPAR, which evolved to V1 Game (now Roundabout), and then I started over with PAR Golf before rebranding to TANGENT… Man, thats been a journey itself, but here we are.
Why did I start this journey? Because I wanted to know just how good I could at golf. When I started, I was a 5-6 handicap working full time as an engineer with a newborn son. Not the ideal recipe for game improvement. I saw my time on the course shrinking and my practice time becoming almost non-existent. So I built an app that would tell me what to work on to improve the fastest… and with less practice. And it worked!
I carved my way down from a 5 to a +1. All while managing the constraints of work and family obligations. To do so, I bought a launch monitor, i built a net in my backyard and I found ways to scratch out practice here and there based on insights from TANGENT.
Fast forward to now. I quit my engineering job. Brought on partners and we’re building something special… but the nagging question about my golf is still there. How good could I get.
I still don’t regularly practice. People think running a golf business that I play all the time… I’m lucky to average twice a month throughout the year. Building a business is hard. My family is getting older and weekends are more and more filled with chasing kids from soccer field to soccer field.
But I have a few advantages… I have to test the app. I can double dip on content that shows how I am putting my money where my mouth is. I am using the product to show just how good I can get. The Good Miss is growing steadily. So thats my plan for 2025. After taking almost an entire year off of tournament golf, I’m diving back in.
I’m going to get stronger.
I’m going to get faster.
I’m going to get better.
And I’m going to use TANGENT.
I’ve set a ridiculously lofty goal of winning the US Mid Am. To even have a chance.. I’m going to have to carve my way down to a +6. So that journey starts now.
If you’re as old and nerdy as I am, you may have run across The Dan Plan where Dan tried to go from just learning the game to pro in 10k hours… He didn’t make it.
Or Paper Tiger by Tom Coyne, a great book, where Tom tries to see if he can go pro in a year with all the advantages… He didn’t make it.
So now it’s my turn. How good can I get? But I’m not putting timeline constraints on the goal. I realize that improvement is difficult especially sitting here as a Scratch. It’s only going to get harder. So here we go… I’m going to play in The Masters. I just have to earn the invite. You can follow my journey at The Good Miss with the first video in the series linked below. I’ll show you exactly how TANGENT can take you where you want to go…. Faster.
